Budding Ghanaian rapper NINE99 has released his debut solo mixtape dubbed, “gulf“, a project years in the making. The tape, subtitled “…as untold by NINE99″*, captures his personal journey through a mix of storytelling and diverse hip-hop influences.
Curated over four years, “gulf” was recorded, mixed and mastered by multidisciplinary artist Kwame Universe, with production contributions from QAL-NEL, KloudedKeys, Oshomah Native, theflowerpapi, and Asenie.
NINE99 describes the mixtape as “a letter of gratitude to God for blessing me with all the moments that I’ve lived through.”
“gulf to me is about gratitude. I didn’t think I’d get this far and I’m grateful to be here and to be challenged to not only tell my story, but to take on the challenge of putting together a project by me and for me. This tape is a testament to growth and a chance to get on with telling my story my way,” he shares.
The mixtape offers a glimpse into NINE99’s world, tracing his experiences from high school to college and beyond. Sonically, it blends boombap, alternative, and traditional hip-hop, creating an immersive listening experience.
