Ghana’s leading youth-oriented radio station, YFM, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, Esq.
The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and explore opportunities for partnership in youth development initiatives.
During the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Media Alliance (GMA), the mother company of YFM, Ernest Boateng, highlighted YFM’s significant reach and impact within the Ghanaian youth demographic. “For the past 16 years, YFM has grown to become a prominent voice across three regions. Our data indicates we are the number two English-speaking radio station nationally and hold the number one in English position in the Ashanti and Western regions. For the youth demographic, we have been consistently number one and we are eager to actively support the Ministry’s activities.”
Mr. Boateng further emphasized GMA’s commitment to a partnership that extends beyond radio to “on-the- ground campaigns, specifically offering support in anti-drug education. “As YFM, we believe our partnership should have a broader impact. We are on the ground, ready to actively support the Ministry in its work, particularly in the crucial area of anti-drug abuse education. We believe now is the opportune time to drive meaningful change, especially concerning the alarming issue of opioid abuse among the youth.”
He expressed YFM’s strong focus on youth development and  readiness to leverage their influence and reach to empower young people.
“There is a huge focus within YFM to contribute to the development of the youth, and we are poised to do just that. We believe this is the right time to empower young people, and with YFM’s influence and connection with this demographic, we are the right partner to get the job done. We are confident that our collaborative efforts will yield positive results in achieving the Ministry’s objectives.”
Responding to the visit and the proposed partnership, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, Esq., expressed his gratitude. “We thank YFM for this visit and for presenting these proposals and opportunities to us. As a Ministry, we are keen to deepen this relationship and leverage YFM’s extensive reach to connect with the many young people across the nation. I am very hopeful that by working together, we will achieve significant benefits for the ordinary Ghanaian youth.”
A key focus of the envisioned partnership will be a collaborative effort to combat the rising incidents of opioid abuse among Ghanaian youth, with a particular emphasis on the dangerous substance known as “red.” Both YFM and the Ministry expressed a strong commitment to leveraging their respective platforms and resources to raise awareness, educate young people about the risks, and support ongoing anti-drug campaigns.
This meeting signifies a promising step towards a stronger alliance between the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment and Global Media Alliance, with YFM playing a pivotal role in reaching and positively influencing the youth of Ghana.
