YFM, Ghana’s number one urban, youth and music radio station, proudly announces the first six honorees of #YPOWERICONS2025, recognising outstanding Ghanaian youth aged 15-35 who are making exceptional contributions across diverse industries and youth development.
As part of Youth Month and an extension of International Youth Day (12th August), which carried the UN theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond”, this initiative highlights young people’s unique role in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities. The selected icons represent various sectors including music, culinary arts, healthcare advocacy, agriculture, and digital content creation.
THE FIRST SIX Y POWER ICONS 2025
DR. GEORGE ANAGLI – Ghanaian Pharmacist & Public Health Advocate
A distinguished Doctor of Pharmacy graduate from KNUST, Dr. Anagli has become a powerful voice in healthcare policy discussions and advocacy for healthcare workers. Currently serving at Top-Up Pharmacy, he hosts the popular #RxWithDrGeorge series on X, where he simplifies complex health topics and promotes healthy living to a broad audience. Beyond health education, he has led online advocacy campaigns, including a widely supported X movement pushing for the timely payment of health workers in Ghana. His active engagement in youth-led health policy dialogues has positioned him as a credible voice for change in Ghana’s healthcare system. In August 2024, he was appointed to the WHO FIDES Network an elite panel of global health influencers assembled by the World Health Organisation to combat health misinformation. Celebrating the achievement as a “big win for all of us,” his selection marks a milestone in both his career and Ghana’s presence in global health communication.

CHEF ABBY – Ghanaian Chef & Digital Content Creator
Born Abena Amoakoa Sintim-Aboagye, Chef Abby is a celebrated Ghanaian chef and digital content creator who has gained international acclaim for showcasing Ghanaian and West African cuisine through social media. With over 1.4 million followers on TikTok, she is known for transforming everyday West African dishes like jollof, kenkey, waakye, and banku into vibrant, culturally rich storytelling experiences. In 2025, she was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Creators in the world, making her the first Ghanaian chef to achieve this honour. Chef Abby also received recognition at the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, highlighting the global impact of African culinary arts. Her work emphasises the deeper cultural meaning behind ingredients and cooking methods, making her a leading voice in using food as a medium for heritage, memory, and identity. Through her creative lens, Chef Abby continues to elevate traditional Ghanaian cuisine on the global stage.

AMAARAE – Ghanaian-American Singer, Songwriter & Producer
Born Ama Serwah Genfi on July 4, 1994, Amaarae is a Ghanaian-American singer, songwriter, and producer known for her futuristic blend of pop, R&B, afrobeats, and alternative music. Raised between the US and Ghana, she fuses cultural influences from Atlanta, New Jersey, and Accra to create a genre-bending sound she calls Afro-fusion. Her music is celebrated for its ethereal vocals, edgy production, and bold exploration of gender and identity. She first gained attention with her 2017 EP Passionfruit Summers and solidified her artistry with the critically acclaimed 2020 debut album The Angel You Don’t Know, which featured the global hit “Sad Girlz Luv Money.” In 2023, her second album Fountain Baby received widespread acclaim and helped her become the first female Ghanaian artist to surpass one billion global streams. In 2025, Amaarae made history as the first Ghanaian to perform a solo set at Coachella, marking the moment with a symbolic haircut on stage and debuting new work. She also announced her upcoming third album, Black Star, set for release in August 2025, which blends nightlife, baile funk, and dance music. Known for her androgynous fashion, genre-pushing sound and fierce independence, Amaarae has performed at global festivals such as Glastonbury, AfroNation, Governors Ball, and Lollapalooza, and toured alongside artists like Childish Gambino. She remains a standout figure in African music, redefining the sound and image of the modern African pop star.

KWEKU FLICK – Ghanaian Musician & Songwriter
A rising force in Ghana’s music scene, Kweku Flick has captured attention with his unique sound and authentic storytelling. Recognised amongst the 30 Ghanaian youth contributing to youth development, YFM recognises and celebrates his contributions to Ghana’s rich musical heritage whilst connecting with youth culture nationwide.

KOFI KINATA – Ghanaian Singer & Rapper
Known for his distinctive style and meaningful lyrics, Kofi Kinata has established himself as one of Ghana’s most respected contemporary artists. His contributions to the music industry and positive influence on Ghanaian youth make him a worthy addition to the Y Power Icons 2025 list.

MAXLYN CHELSY SEY – Programmes Manager (YFM Takoradi) & Media Personality
Maxlyn Chelsy Sey is an award-winning Ghanaian media personality, event host, women’s advocate, voice artist, and entrepreneur. Currently the host of “Ryse and Shyne” (a morning show) and “PillowTalk” (a relationship talk show) on YFM under Global Media Alliance, Chelsy has established herself as a formidable force in Ghana’s media landscape. Her career began after tertiary education at Paragon FM under Paragon Investment, where she honed her skills hosting the Drive Show, news reporting, and events coverage. With years of experience in event hosting, she has become a sought-after professional for both formal corporate events and social gatherings, having co-hosted prestigious events including the maiden Western Music Awards, Western Business Awards, Rotary Awards Night, Ghacem Customer Appreciation Awards, Women In Agric Soil Awards, and MTN Momo Season (Western). Beyond media, Chelsy is passionate about empowering women and children through her BOSS Up 100 foundation, traveling across the country to mentor Ghanaian youth and help them make informed life decisions. Her “I AM THE BOSS” initiative aims to empower youth to take responsibility for their actions and strive for excellence. As a TVET advocate, she was honoured for her role in mentoring startups during the maiden Takoradi Pitch Summit, earning recognition in the Western Region’s startup ecosystem.

Starting today, 25th August 2025, YFM will be unveiling 6 icons daily until Friday across all platforms. Each day will showcase these remarkable young people who are influencers, thought leaders, medical practitioners, musicians, and professionals across various sectors, all making significant impact in their respective fields whilst inspiring their peers and communities.
