Consulting Partner at Future HR & Business Solutions, Kwaku Owusu Opoku, has advised HR practitioners to cultivate a habit of continuous learning and deepen their understanding of employment laws to strengthen their credibility as advisers within organisations.
He made the remarks at the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management – Ghana’s (CIHRM) Industry Connect 2.0, an interactive learning engagement initiated and hosted by Dr. Timothy Karikari, Director of Broadcast at Global Media Alliance Broadcast Group and a lecturer at the CIHRM.
Mr. Opoku, an alumnus of the CIHRM, highlighted that well-informed HR professionals are better positioned to influence strategic decisions and protect both employees and employers. “To be effective, you must know the law, understand your organisation’s context, and interpret HR policies accurately,” he said. “Knowledge builds confidence, and confidence earns trust.”
He encouraged practitioners to view HR not merely as an administrative function but as a strategic business role that requires critical thinking, data interpretation, and continuous professional reading.
The discussion took place alongside presentations from fellow CIHRM alumni; Fafa Gbeho, Head of HR at Global Media Alliance, and Joseph Kwesi Sam, HR Manager at Atlantic Catering and Logistics, who addressed mental health, professionalism, and union relations respectively.
Also present at the event was the Programmes Administrator of CIHRM, Ama Pimpong, who commended Dr. Karikari for initiating and sustaining the initiative and reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to continuous professional development.
As Ghana continues to professionalise its human resource practice, initiatives like Industry Connect remain crucial in equipping emerging practitioners with the knowledge and practical insight needed to drive sustainable organisational performance.
