Ghanaian-British artist and songwriter, Fuse ODG says his string of awards helped change the way African music is recognized worldwide.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Y 102.5FM RYSE N SHYNE Show with Ebenezer Nana Yaw Donkor popularly known as NYDJ, Fuse ODG recalled how his early recognition marked a turning point for Afrobeat. “It was important to show the richness of Africa on national TV,” he said, referencing his landmark performance as the first Afrobeat artist to appear on UK national television. “We had been underestimated for too long, given awards backstage. Now the narrative has changed,” he said.

The artist noted that the awards were not just personal milestones but proof of Afrobeat’s growing influence. “Now Afrobeat is everywhere, and Africans are proud. We must reclaim our wealth and rebuild our continent,” he added.

He thanked his Manager, Mr. Hackett for supporting his music career journey and helping change the narrative of Afrobeats in Africa

He won the MOBO Awards three times, alongside honors at the Urban Music Awards, and was nominated for the Black Entertainment Television BET Awards. Industry observers note that his wins, though achieved years ago, remain significant in cementing Afrobeat’s place in global music.
