Atletico Madrid booked their place in the Copa del Rey final for the first time since 2013 despite suffering a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday, as their 4-0 first-leg victory in Madrid secured a 4-3 aggregate triumph in a thrilling semi-final clash.
Barcelona pushed hard for a dramatic comeback after last month’s heavy loss, with 18-year-old Marc Bernal scoring in both halves and Raphinha converting a penalty after Pedri was fouled.
The hosts dominated possession and created several chances, but Atletico goalkeeper Juan Musso produced a string of key saves to keep his side in the tie.
Bernal’s second goal in the 72nd minute brought Barcelona within one strike of forcing extra time, but Diego Simeone’s men held firm to seal progression.
Atletico will now face the winner of the other semi-final between Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao as they chase Copa del Rey glory.
