Globally recognised rapper and songwriter, Black Sherrif has shared insights on the origin of his songs and the versatile mode of his creative process.
Speaking in an interview with an Accra-based TV station, the Kwaku The Traveller, hitmaker, revealed that his songs are written in the most unlikely places before he proceeds with recording at the studio. “I write everywhere; I could be anywhere and start getting lyrics and the rhythm for my next song.”
Blacko shared that a typical example of a song that came at a random period was hit song sequel, 2nd Sermon, “I was just walking along the old Keke Base, when the song 2nd Sermon Came and I started writing; music is everywhere and anywhere it floats around; from anywhere and anything.”
He, however, affirmed that certain songs require a particular atmosphere or solitude for the message within the song to be conveyed with clarity and precision. “…sometimes I am required to write my songs in my room in a book or the studio; sometimes, I desire to go to the beach to get that atmosphere for the song.”
