Ghanaian star Black Sherif has shifted focus to the global stage, announcing a New York tour just days before the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where he remains a strong contender for Artiste of the Year.
The move comes at a time when conversations around the top prize have intensified across social media, with many netizens tipping Black Sherif as a frontrunner following a standout year.
However, the rapper appears unfazed by the buzz, and has announced his imminent New York tour across social media. In a post on X, the rapper shared, “New York City, it’s almost PopStar season. See you soon.”
In a recent interview with Kafui Dey, Black Sherif took a surprising turn by throwing his support behind fellow nominee Wendy Shay, who is competing against Stonebwoy, Medikal, Sarkodie, and Diana Hamilton.
While acknowledging the competitive nature of the category, he highlighted Wendy Shay’s consistency and impact, positioning her as deserving of the honour. “I don’t like how people are not mentioning Wendy Shay’s name for Artiste of the Year,” he said. “I don’t really like the division, but if I’m being honest and looking at things as they are, I don’t like how she’s being overlooked. I feel she is eligible this year as well.”
Black Sherrif has also earned a nomination for Album Of The Year with Iron Boy EP, Best Hip-Hop Song with “Where Dem Boys”, Best Afropop Song with “Sacrifice”, and International Collaboration of the Year “So It Goes” with Fireboy DML.
