Paris Saint-Germain have cemented their place among European football’s elite after successfully defending the UEFA Champions League title with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Arsenal in Budapest.
After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, PSG held their nerve to win 4-3 on penalties, securing back-to-back Champions League crowns following last season’s emphatic triumph over Inter Milan.
The achievement makes PSG the first club to retain the trophy since Real Madrid won three consecutive titles between 2016 and 2018, and only the second team to defend the Champions League in the modern era.
Under coach Luis Enrique, PSG have enjoyed a period of remarkable success, winning eight of the last 10 trophies available to them and continuing to dominate both domestically and in Europe.
The French giants also set the pace statistically in this season’s competition, finishing as the tournament’s highest-scoring side with 45 goals.
