Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has confirmed that each player in Ghana’s World Cup squad will receive an appearance fee of $100,000 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, the Minister explained that the amount has remained unchanged in recent tournaments despite calls for an increase following the strengthening of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar.
According to Kofi Adams, appearance fees for Black Stars players have varied over the years, but the government has decided to maintain the current figure of $100,000 for this year’s tournament.
He argued that if the fee was not reduced when the cedi weakened in the past, there is also no justification for increasing it now because the local currency has gained value.
The Black Stars are preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will begin their Group L campaign against Panama.
