The Asokwa Municipal Assembly has emerged as one of Ghana’s top-performing local authorities after securing 3rd place in the 2025 Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT). The impressive achievement marks a dramatic rise from its 46th position in 2024, highlighting a year of significant progress in financial governance.
The league table, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA), evaluates all 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) on their compliance with public financial management standards. The assessment focuses on budgeting, procurement, financial reporting, revenue mobilization and overall accountability.
Asokwa recorded an outstanding score of 92.00%, finishing behind only Bia East District Assembly, which placed first with 94.50%, and Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly, which secured second place with 93.50%. The Assembly also performed far above the national average score of 56.20%, making it one of the country’s biggest success stories this year.

The recognition was presented during a national awards ceremony, where the Assembly received a plaque from Hon. Gladys G.N. Tetteh, Deputy Executive Director of CLGA, under the theme “Strengthening Compliance, Enhancing Accountability.” The citation praised the Assembly’s commitment to improving public financial management and maintaining compliance throughout the financial management cycle.
The remarkable improvement has been credited to the leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Amoh Kamel, whose administration has prioritized transparency, accountability and sound financial practices. Through effective supervision and collaboration with the Assembly’s finance and administrative teams, Asokwa has transformed its financial management systems within a relatively short period.
Moving from 46th to 3rd nationally reflects the Assembly’s dedication to responsible governance and efficient public service delivery. The achievement also strengthens public confidence in local administration and sets an example for other assemblies across Ghana.
Asokwa Municipal Assembly now looks ahead with the ambition of maintaining its high standards and possibly claiming the number one position in future editions of the league table. For now, the municipality has every reason to celebrate this remarkable milestone.
Congratulations to Hon. Amoh Kamel, the Assembly’s management, staff and the people of Asokwa on this well-deserved recognition.
