Aisha Ayensu, Aisha Ayensu, luxury fashion brand Christie Brown, has revealed that the brand was named after her grandmother, a seamstress whose legacy continues to inspire her work.
Speaking on Episode 5 of Franco Vybz with Rev. Erskine about the inspiration behind the brand, Ms. Ayensu explained that her grandmother worked as a seamstress throughout her life but died two years before the fashion house was established.
Ms. Ayensu, who studied Psychology at the University of Ghana, Legon, said she launched the brand while in her final year, driven by a vision to build a global luxury fashion house from Ghana. “The whole premise was I wanted us to create a global luxury brand from here,” she said.
She explained that the brand was also established to showcase Africa’s beauty and cultural heritage to an international audience, particularly aspects of the continent that are often overlooked or underrepresented globally.
According to Ms. Ayensu, naming the brand Christie Brown was a deliberate decision to honour her grandmother’s memory and acknowledge the influence of her life and craft on the brand’s identity.
Through Christie Brown, Ms. Ayensu continues to pursue her vision of building a globally recognized luxury fashion brand rooted in Ghanaian creativity, African heritage and craftsmanship.
