Beneficiaries of the RNAQ Foundation’s scholarship initiative have pledged to use the knowledge and skills acquired through their education to contribute to the development of the Ga-Dangme community.

The students expressed gratitude for the financial support, describing the scholarship as an important opportunity to pursue their academic ambitions and prepare for their respective careers.

Speaking in interviews following the scholarship presentation, the beneficiaries shared their educational journeys, professional aspirations and plans to make meaningful contributions to society.

One of the beneficiaries, Victoria Otu, a final-year student of Technology and Cyber Security at the Accra Technical University, said she was excited and grateful to have been selected for the scholarship.

“It has been exciting and amazing, and I want to say thank you to God as well because it has been a lot. They mentioned a thousand people and I am part of those they mentioned, so I will say it is amazing,” she said.

Speaking about her career aspirations, Ms Otu highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity in an increasingly technology-driven world, noting the need to protect internet users from online threats, including cyberbullying.

“Cyber security is all over, so we need to protect ourselves. Even cyber bullying is part of it,” she said.

She expressed confidence that her training would enable her to contribute to public safety by helping protect digital assets and information.

“My course pertains to protecting assets and things on the internet for security. So I am here for you,” she added.

Another beneficiary, Gloria Ayi, a Public Relations student at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), said she aspired to build a career in journalism and public relations, using her professional platform to amplify the voices of marginalised groups.

“I want to be a journalist and a public relations officer,” she said.

Ms Ayi explained that she hoped to use journalism as a tool to advocate for vulnerable members of society, particularly those whose concerns often go unheard.

“Journalism serves as a platform for me to speak up for minors, those whose voices do not reach where they are supposed to be,” she said.

Reflecting on her selection, Ms Ayi said she was proud of how far she had come, particularly as she had initially been uncertain about her chances of receiving the scholarship.

“First of all, I am proud of myself for bringing myself this far, and I am so grateful to God because without Him I would not be here. I am grateful to everyone who encouraged me to apply because I was a bit doubtful, but I am here. I am very grateful,” she said.

The RNAQ Foundation scholarship initiative, established in partnership with the Ga Mantse Foundation, seeks to support deserving Ga-Dangme students in pursuing higher education and developing the skills needed to contribute to their communities.

Through the initiative, the foundations aim to expand educational opportunities for beneficiaries while encouraging them to apply their knowledge and professional expertise towards the advancement of the Ga-Dangme community.
