From the World Cup to the Champions League, Iker Casillas is one of the most recognised goalkeepers in world football and in a career spanning 17 years, the Spaniard has won pretty much everything there is to win – but one trophy has eluded him.
Casillas, who is the third captain in football history to lift the World Cup trophy, the Champions League trophy and the European Championship trophy, has been linked with a sensational move to the Premier League and according to Don Balon, he could be set for a move to London.
The 35-year-old’s contract at current side Porto is about to end, and it seems the Portuguese side will not extend the deal a further 12 months, which has began rumours of a move away – with both Arsenal and Chelsea thrown into the fray.
It is believed that Casillas’ wife Sara Carbonero, a Spanish journalist and TV presenter, is a big factor in the potential move as she would only accept a change of air if London came calling.
Back in March 2016, Casillas secretly married his sports reporter girlfriend Carbonero after meeting in 2010.
Casillas’ agents are now reportedly exploring the prospect of moving to London.
Don Balon state that the possible transfer of Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid could make way for Casillas’ tmove to Stamford Bridge, while David Ospina’s undecided future could see a bid from Arsenal.
All we know is, we’d love to see one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time grace the Premier League.
But it seems the Spaniard has received offers from elsewhere – in particular French side Marseille who have offered him a chance to ply his trade in Ligue 1.
According to reports in Portugal, the legendary keeper has been offered a two year deal by Marseille’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
That being said, will the Premier League be too good to turn down for Casillas?
Make it happen, Iker.
