Frank Lampard In Talks To Take First Job In Football Management

In a bizarre turn of events, former Chelsea and West Ham midfielder Frank Lampard is in talks to become the manager of League One side Oxford United.
Lampard, who hung up his boots in February this year after a spell in the MLS, is set to replace Michael Appleton after he decided to join Premier League side Leicester City as their assistant manager.

Just a month after he decided to leave New York City, Lampard admitted that he wanted to try his hand at management in the near future:

“I want to manage. Most of my career I wasn’t sure but when I got into my thirties I became a lot more interested.” Lampard said.
“Much as I’m interested in coaching I’ve just as much interest in how to deal with people.”
Lampard was spotted in Oxford this afternoon with wife Christine Bleakley in Pizza Express, Oxford.

It is thought that the former England international is good friends with Oxford’s director Dave Jones. They have already spoken about the possibility of Lampard joining The U’s.
Back in February, in a lengthy post on Instagram, Lampard paid special tribute to his wife Christine and his two children as well as all of his former clubs, reserving special praise for Chelsea.
“Of course, the largest part of my heart belongs to Chelsea, a club which has given me so many great memories.
“I will never forget the opportunity they gave me and the success that we managed to achieve together. It is impossible to give thanks individually to all the people that helped and supported me in my 13 years playing there. All I can say is from the day I signed until now and going forward, I’m eternally grateful for everything and to everyone.
“Chelsea fans gave myself and my teammates such incredible support. Their passion and hunger drove me on personally to give my best year after year. I couldn’t have done it without them.“
Lampard took in a loan spell with Manchester City and two seasons in MLS with New York City FC. He won 106 caps for England, scoring 29 goals.
