Tony Pulis has been sacked by West Brom, the club have announced.
After just two wins in 21 games, it seems Saturday’s defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League was the final straw for chairman John Williams and the club owners.
Chairman John Williams said: “These decisions are never taken lightly but always in the interests of the Club. We are in a results business and over the back end of last season and this season to date, ours have been very disappointing.
“We would like to place on record our appreciation of Tony’s contribution and hard work during a period of transition for the Club which included a change of ownership. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”
It was also confirmed that assistant Head Coach Gary Megson has agreed to take charge of first-team affairs until further notice.
After the game, Pulis insisted that a lack of concentration cost them dearly, with goals from Morata, Marcos Alonso and Eden Hazard costing them dearly.
“When you play against the top teams, especially in this league, you’ve got to defend better than we did today,” said the Baggies boss via the West Brom website.
“I thought they kept going and working hard, nobody can say they didn’t. At times we played some good stuff without the quality in the final third.
You can’t give goals away – every goal they’ve scored today is one I would say is a basic mistake. Confidence is low and one or two players haven’t played – in the respect of concentration – as well as they can.
The defending was poor for their goals and the lads switched off at decisive moments for us and it cost us dearly.”
