It was one of the feistiest Manchester Derby’s in recent memory, but it wasn’t until after the game that tempers flared as United and City players and staff were heavily involved in a reported 20-man fracas.
Plenty of allegations were made, including reports that Jose Mourinho was involved in a bust-up with Ederson and had milk and water thrown at him after the spat. Mourinho had gone to the door of City’s dressing room to ask them to show more respect as they celebrated and played music, according to The Telegraph.
Things then escalated in a narrow corridor outside City’s dressing room, with police and stewards having to intervene to stop a bust-up that included 20 players and staff from both set of teams.
But it all started when Manchester City’s staff made a passing comment to Zlatan Ibrahimovic as they made their way back to the changing room.
Spanish publication Marca reported that they said ‘Ibra, you talk a lot but you move a little.’, which started the brawl.
Now the Manchester Evening News have claimed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was in the medical room receiving treatment for his knee injury.
Punches are said to have been thrown, while City’s assistant manager Mikel Arteta had his eyebrow split open and had blood streaming down his face as things got nasty, but Zlatan wasn’t involved.
Romelu Lukaku, who was at fault for both of City’s goals and missed a golden chance to level matters late on, was “prominently involved” according to reports.
Eventually, thanks to the presence of police and security, the scrap came to a halt.
