Man City captain Vincent Kompany plans for life after football as he graduates from Manchester Business School

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany’s plans for life after football are well underway as he graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration.
The 31-year-old has spent the last four years juggling playing for City and studying part time at Alliance Manchester Business School as he plans for life after he hangs up his boots.
Despite picking up another injury in the 1-0 win against Newcastle the Blues skipper isn’t planning on retiring any time soon.
He said: “Although I want to continue playing football as long as possible, I may look to use this combination of academic learning and years of playing experience in the future.”
Not content with just winning titles with Manchester City , Kompany was determined to further his education.
The son of a Congolese political activist and a Belgian trades unionist, Kompany had always been told by his parents of the importance of education, regardless of how promising he was as a footballer.
And Kompany feels his degree is a fitting tribute to his late mother.
“I’ve always felt education is very important and this was instilled into me by my late mother from an early age. It felt like a fitting tribute to my mother to pursue my academic career by studying an MBA,” he said.
“It was important to me that I understood what my accountant was talking about and that I could confidently assess a business plan to take ownership of this area of my life.
“I’m an entrepreneur at the core so have a natural interest in business. The MBA was about backing this up with academic learning and research.”
As part of his degree Kompany had to do a dissertation project where he looked at how professional football clubs in the Premier League can benefit from home game advantage and achieve game-changing levels of improvement.
