Salah takes home African Player of the Year honours

Liverpool and Egypt international goal-machine Mohamed Salah was named 2017 African Player of the Year during Thursday’s Confederation of African Football annual awards ceremonies in Accra, Ghana.
Salah bested Reds brethren and Senegal international Sadio Mane for the honour, with Borussia Dortmund and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finishing third.
Leicester City playmaker Riyad Mahrez won the award last season ahead of 2015 winner Aubameyang and Mane.
After guiding The Pharoahs to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, Salah hit the ground running at Liverpool following a summer move from Roma. The 25-year-old attacker is second in the Premier League with 17 goals, one short of two-time reigning Golden Boot winner Harry Kane.
Egypt was also named National Team of the Year while manager Hector Cuper captured the coaching honours. Nigerian Asisat Oshoala was named Women’s Player of the Year for a third time, and Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca was named Club of the Year after winning the CAF Champions League title.
