His former teammate, Luka Modric, eventually pipped Ronaldo and Salah to the POTY trophy, receiving 332 points compared to Cristiano’s 223 points and Salah’s 134.
It might have been a tough decision to take for the five-time Balon d’Or winner but it has been revealed what he said after the results emerged.
And it’s a touch of class from the Juventus forward.
Luka Modric himself, who in my opinion deserved to lift the trophy, has confirmed that Ronaldo actually sent him a message after he won the award.
“He told me he was happy and that I deserved it. He said he hoped to see me soon. That’s it, we have a good relationship and it will continue the same.”
Well, that might just change your views on the situation, in which Ronaldo has been labelled the bad guy by many.
The UEFA Player of the Year is Modric’s second major individual award in two months, after he earned the Golden Ball at this summer’s World Cup – a competition where he had a sublime campaign.
Here are the results from UEFA’s POTY award. Thoughts?
