Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed the players voted for two of the club’s four captains for the 2018/2019 season.
Klopp revealed that he elected Jordan Henderson and James Milner to keep their spot as captain and vice captain respectively.
However, the Reds revealed that the players in the squad voted for Virgil van Djik and Georginio Wijnaldum for captaincy roles as well.
“It probably says a lot about [his character] but it was not my decision,” Klopp told the club’s official website.
“I decided Hendo and Millie will stay [as captain and vice-captain] – that was the 100 per cent logical thing to do and would have been like that as well if we would have voted.
“But I said for the next two, the players can vote and now two Dutch guys are in a row; the team decided No.3 for Virgil and No.4 for Gini Wijnaldum. That was a players’ decision.”
