Allan Saint-Maximin was forced to put a sticker on his Gucci headband during Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday – as it contravened Premier League sponsorship rules.
The winger impressed at St James’ Park, despite needing to cover the branding on his £180 garment.
It was his dribble on the counter-attack and pass to Jetro Willems that led to debutant Matty Longstaff firing in the winner.
He has made four Premier League appearances to date, impressing in flashes with his unpredictability.
In an Instagram post, Maximin said: ‘2002 vs 2019 glow up? Still the same passion for football, dancing, fashion and… HEADBANDS of course “Started from the bottom now we here, story stayed the same through the money and the fame”‘.
The headband received mixed reviews online, with one Twitter user labelling it as ‘everything that is wrong with modern football.’
However, another felt it was a brilliant statement, exclaiming: ‘What a player.’
