Joao Cancelo believes he is learning from the best manager in the game at Manchester City in Pep Guardiola.
Cancelo has mostly been a bit-part player at City since his £60million summer move from Juventus after taking time to get up to speed with Guardiola’s demands.
But the right back has started the last two games in convincing style following City’s depleted defensive options due to injuries, including Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Atalanta, Cancelo said: ‘When I came here I came here to learn. Pep is the best manager in today’s football.
‘It’s true it took me time but it is important the club wins. When I finally had an opportunity to play I did well and the team won.’
Cancelo believes he is now well placed to win the Champions League with City, who are among the favourites for the competition.
He said: ‘I’ve been aiming to win this competition since I was a child.
‘I came here because it’s my type of football. Man City is one of the teams that can win the Champions League.’
