Barcelona loaned Carles Perez to Roma with a mandatory purchase option. The forward was sincere and critical in an interview about his departure from the Catalan club.
Carles Perez arrived at Barcelona as a child and was in the final stages before achieving his dream of establishing himself with the first team. He earned a place in Ernesto Valverde’s team, but could not do the same under Setién.
Barcelona’s recently appointed coach continued counting on him as soon as he took over, but the club decided it was best to sell him and make funds for another striker or number 9. He therefore made his way to Roma for 11 million euros and a series of requirements, such a compulsory purchase option. Carles Pérez was hurt by his club’s decision, and has now shown his discontentment and opinion about the club’s decision in an interview with ‘Mundo Deportivo’.
“It was the way of doing it. I am a boy who has given everything for Barcelona since I was a child. My dream was to make it to the first team and I achieved it and now they have taken it away from me for no reason. Especially with my recent performances. They talk a lot about the youth system and in the end they show the opposite”, he said.
As for a possible return, Carles Perez said that he is solely focused on Roma: “I don’t know what will happen in the future. Barcelona is the past. I’m in Rome now“.
On the signing of Braithwaite and the need to sign a striker, Carles Perez relied on a few words from Cucurella, another Barça academy product. “They always want to win, but then they don’t have patience with the youth academy products anymore. I don’t want to go into this too much either and I am grateful to Barcelona for what they have given me. I think they didn’t behave well in the end, but I am grateful”, he continued.
In the Europa League, Carles Pérez made his debut as a starter and also made his debut as a goal scorer. “It was something important and I didn’t think it was going to happen like that at all. I was really looking forward to it and I’m very happy to be able to help the team.”
