YRefresh: Dynamism redefined on ‘Shouts on Y’, ‘Pop Central’ and ‘YCE’

The Y107.9FM’s initiative dubbed the ‘YRefresh’ is still making waves as the station introduces a fresh approach to urban radio. A healthy mix of talented men and women have been added to the bandwagon of great presenters, DJs and producers at YFM who provide listeners with exceptional content.
Amid the trendsetting in Ghanaian urban radio, YFM still maintains its spot as the station with unique programming that meets international standards.
Winston Michaels, the new host of Shouts On Y who doubles as the host of the Pop Central show aired on Sunday, in an interview with Foster Romanus on the Nite Celebrity Show noted that the station is committed to airing unique programs that positions the brand as matchless and relevant.
Illustrating his point, he said, “Pop central is a two hour program from 4pm to 6pm on Sundays for pop music from everywhere around the globe. We also have a segment called the K-Pop music. That is one of the famous segment we have had and that is one of a kind because it has put YFM in a league of its own. YFM is the only radio station in Ghana that consistently plays Korean pop music and they have a huge fan base.
During the week we run polls on twitter to get people to know the Korean music that could make it on the k-pop music list on Sunday. It has gotten many likes and BBC’s recognition just because of how unique the segment is”.
Speaking on his new show, ‘Shouts on Y’, Winston Michaels expressed, “The best midday show in the country. The trends prove it. I got the best listeners in all of Ghana because they always hold me down. It is a show for the people. I love this show because I connect with the people and play the music they love to hear”.
AD DJ, a member of the Y Campus Express (YCE) team, on his part, divulged that hosting the YCE show has taught him a lot of lessons he seeks to apply in his life. He recounts how over the years the show has impacted the lives of many students in the country.
“I started with the YCE show and I am still on the YCE show and it has been great. Every time, we try to support students in music by giving them the time to shine. We do this shine or die segment where we bring students in to exhibit their talent and then we allow listeners to vote on them to tell us whether they shine or die. And it has been on for years and through these things I learn a lot”, he said.
The Shouts on Y show with Winston Michaels and Quarps airs from Monday to Friday 12 noon to 3pm. The Y Campus Express comes off on Saturdays from 12 noon to 3pm and the Pop Central show is aired on Sundays from 4pm to 6pm.
