Musical artist and BBC-recognized presenter, Winston Micheals, has shared his story of how he landed his current role at YFM.
During an interview with Foster Romanus on the Late Nite Celebrity Show which airs on eTV Ghana, he revealed that he initially joined Global Media Alliance, specifically Happy FM as an audio engineering intern where he worked with the company’s sound engineer.
“I was originally supposed to be an audio engineer with Kafui, the current audio engineer so I’d usually learn how to mix and all that. One night, someone was supposed to do a voice-over but it seems it didn’t work out and they needed the voice-over to be done at that point in time so Kafui just looked at me and said ‘why don’t you do it’
I told him I’d never done a voice-over in my life. I mean, I’d seen a couple of people do it, I know what it is but I’ve never done it in my life, and he said I should do it. That night, I spent about 2-3hours recording it and that’s actually what got me into YFM”, he said.
According to Winston, he got a lot of positive feedback from that gig and the then manager, after hearing how good he was, moved him from Happy Fm to YFM to be a voice-over artist because he exhibited just the skill and talent that YFM needed.
Fast forward, with lots of hard work, Winston Micheals is now the host of Y1079.FM’s Shouts on Y which airs from Mondays to Fridays from 12-3pm, Pop Central on Sundays from 4-6pm, and Y-Sports on the Dryve at 4pm and 5pm.
