Success goes beyond wealth – UGMC CEO

August 19, 2020
in News

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC), Dr. Darius Osei has advised the youth not to set wealth as a benchmark for success.
When asked in an interview with Y107.9FM’s Rev Erskine on the ‘Myd Morning Show’ about his definition for success, the experienced professional in the medical sector noted that success transcends wealth to social impact.
“For me, success can never be defined in monetary terms. A successful person should be a role model to people and others will want to be like him. You also have to make an impact on your society.”
The good doctor who was once in charge of ‘The Trust Hospital’ in 2006 mentioned that his time at the hospital was impactful and changed lives and that is an example of what success ought to be. “When I look back to the time I joined Trust Hospital, the staff strength was 279 but when I was leaving, the staff strength had been increased to 680. So your good work probably has been able to put food on the tables of people and that makes you happy.”
Dr. Osei added that he thrives to be a better person every single day and to positively influence all persons around him.
He advised the youth to have a vision in life and work towards that vision for “there are no shortcuts in life and even if there are shortcuts, they are very short-lived.”
The doctor with a special interest in Quality Assurance in healthcare indicated that nothing comes easy “and if you don’t serve you will not get anything.”
He told the youth, “We should be very patient and build ourselves. It gets to a point the society needs you more than you need them.”
He reiterated, “People should take time to build themselves well and make sure they impact positively on society.”
