Afro-Fusion Artist Moliy brings all levels of fire to Ghana’s alternative music scene with a sensual and captivating voice.
She recently released her debut EP called Wondergirl. Wondergirl is a 6-track body of calm, sultry grooves perfect for a chill night out with friends, but also just the right tempo to get dancing feet excited.
Asked on the Y Lounge with Akosua Hanson why she chose that title, she said, “that’s like my alter ego. Wondergirl is just an amazing, superhero music b**ch”. Her superpower is to make fire music, such as Loud, the first track off her EP. Loud is a song about going outside your comfort zone, catching a vibe unlike any before, getting lit, forgetting all your problems, and just being the best version of yourself. Moliy partners Kkeda and super-producer Mike Millz on this to deliver quite the bop.
Other tracks on the EP like ‘My Way’ and ‘Ghana Bop’ blend the best of Afrobeat, R&B, and Moliy’s silky voice to deliver even more heat.
‘Cool it Down’, amongst other tracks, is centred around a dysfunctional relationship between two lovers. Relatable in terms of love, confusion, and heartbreak; Moliy pours her heart out on this wholeheartedly crafted tune.
Wondergirl is one that could be called a self-entitled track, given the fact that Moliy’s alter ego is truly Wondergirl. Talking about Being a Ride or Die, she sings, “Wondergirl, no, I don’t want anybody but you. No, I don’t mind if you no Dey get through. Baby we go grind till we got it times two”.
Moliy, who has been making music for the past 2 and a half years, is inspired by great music and currently listening to dope artists like the African Giant, Burna Boy, and, Amaarae.
