#YDiscoDiaries: Here’s Aka Blay’s solution to Ghana’s unemployment situation

Renowned Guitarist, Aka Blay, has proposed the setting up of state music bands in all sixteen regions of the country to create employment of both the youths and older generation.
Speaking in an interview with YFM’s Kojo Manuel on the Disco Dairies segment of the Dryve of Your Lyfe, the legendary guitarist stated: “It is very important to bring band culture. It is a very good area of employment to the youth and even older people. It depends on how we structure it.
We have sixteen (16) regions and if we are able to put venues in each region the venues will serve as educational and entertainment centres. The old professionals will teach the youth on how to use our culture, how to talk and dance as well as the history. We don’t have them. Imagine the employment we get in these venues. That aside, we need to have regional bands that belong to the state. This is one strategy we have to use”.
In his submission, he acknowledged that it is important that the older generation adapt to current trends and technology to teach the youth the craft of music.
He was confident that the youth of today really want to learn from the legends but will only do so using technology.
Anthony Aka Blay has been a versatile Ghanaian guitarist who has been playing in a variety of contexts including highlife, reggae, jazz, afrobeat, blues and rock.
He is known for his popular music with Cabum dubbed ‘Take Away’. Aka Blay is out with a new jam dubbed ‘Susana’ which features musician Trigmatic.
