My focus is for Ghana to enjoy long-lasting peace…- Peace Council Chairperson

November 25, 2020
in News

Ghana’s 2020 General Elections is just around the corner and the Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi has declared that his concern is not on who wins at the December 7 polls.
According to him, his main focus for Ghana is for the country to enjoy accountability and long-lasting peace ahead of, during and after the election results for the presidential race are announced.
Speaking to Akosua Hanson on Y 107.9 FM’s ‘Myd Morning Radio Show’, the man of God said, “For me, I don’t care who rules this country. For as long as there is peace, stability and the economy is good and I can sleep and sleep well, I don’t care. People need to understand this”.
He furthered, politics is the exchange of ideas and not violence and advised citizens not to engage in any acts of violence on the behest of any politician or political party. “At the end of the day, the politicians call it a game. Let’s stay calm and go through the election process in peace. You will hear politicians screaming in the studio and when they see each other, they throw their hands around each other and say it was a good game”.
The Peace Council Chair reiterated, “The election is not about fighting. We need the Ghanaian to understand that election is a process and whoever wins the election will lead Ghana”.
He commended the various churches in the country for the various peace programs they have rolled out in this election period. “The churches need to be engaged in the country’s peace architecture more because most of their members are involved in politics. In the past, the church stood back and saw politics as a dirty game but with time, they now know they can’t leave politics to politicians alone. They need to hold them to order as most of these politicians are members of the various churches”.
