International Women’s Day is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights, globally. The day was predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.
The first International Women’s Day occurred in 1911, supported by over one million people.
Today, International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. A public holiday in some countries and largely ignored elsewhere. In some places, it is a day of protest; in others, it is a day that celebrates womanhood, and we at YFM will like to take this opportunity to celebrate the incredible women of YFM GHANA.
