Absa Bank has secured a golden partnership with the National Banking College(NBC), Young Investors Network and Ghana Education Service to officially launch the ‘Absa Money Matters’ financial literacy program.

The bank marked the launch of this financial stride on Tuesday, April 30 2024 at the Ghana Library Authority Main Conference Hall.

The launch of the financial literacy program raked in students from Senior High Schools in Ghana, as it has been designed to build up young people in the area of finance. The program will focus on young Ghanaians in the Senior High and Junior High Schools to prepare and equip them with essential financial knowledge and skills to navigate the increasingly complex economic landscape.

Delivering the welcome address, the Interim-Managing Director of Absa Bank, Mr. Adolph Kpegah, emphasized Absa Bank’s commitment to not only nurture young Ghanaians into financially aware individuals but also equip them to establish a life of prosperity and fulfillment. He described this initiative as an investment that Ghana will yield in the future and encouraged all students to fully partake in the program. “By investing in the financial education of today’s youth, we are investing in the future of our nation; as we launch this initiative we reaffirm our commitment to empower the future of Ghana and further confirm our dedication to the economic well-being of our society.”

Representing the National Banking College as a dedicated partner of Absa Bank, Principal of the NBC, Gloria Darline Quartey, was particularly enthused by the bank’s efforts to streamline Ghana’s economy through financial knowledge and nurturing young ones to cultivate the habit of saving. She noted that the launch is a strategic move which naturally follows the celebration of three decades of the National College of Banking in existence. The NBC official enlisted the support given to Absa ranging from educational material, dedicated tutors, and a state-of-the-art auditorium for a conducive learning experience. “This program coming right on the back of the NBC’s 30th Anniversary celebration launch speaks volumes thus making it a natural and strategic move. “

Absa Bank further expressed their interests in the youth by hosting an insightful discussion which was held among representatives of the prestigious Senior High Schools – Saint Mary’s Senior High School, Saint John’s Grammar Secondary School, and Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon on the financial position of youth in Ghana today.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Young Investors Network, Mr. Joshua Mensah, Absa Bank’s Money Matters financial literacy program will span across four regions of Ghana to educate 60,000 young people on financial literacy. He believed that the well prepared educational materials provided by NBC will be coupled with building a mindset of financial empowerment in each student for the rest of their lives.
