The offices of Happy FM was a scene of joy and celebration yesterday after Abu National from Kumasi emerged winner of the second edition of the Happy FM ‘Damehene’ Championship. The championship which took place on Saturday 24th September, 2015 had to be postponed because of the great dexterity displayed by players resulting in a cliff-hanger leaving spectators with no clear winner on the day of the competition.
Abu National who came fourth last year against all odds beat off competition from over 190 players from different parts of the country including past champions. He received a trophy and a cash reward from Happy FM.
Other winners which include George Afrifa aka Kiikiway and Theophilus Quaye who came second and third respectively also received cash rewards for their efforts.
Akwasi Sarpong, the Programmes Manager of Happy FM, Ghana’s number one sports station, said, ‘’we are happy to be the first sports station in this country to seriously champion the game of ‘dame’ and to give hope to individuals who are passionate about the game,’’ adding that the main aim of this event is to promote lesser known sports in Ghana. Mr. Sarpong assured players and their supporters of an improved event next year.
