UK-based Ghanaian media personality and former Ghana’s Most Beautiful 1st Runner-Up; Adwoa Saah, has introduced her foundation , Big Sister’s Lap, as a guiding light to young girls through the various phases of life into adulthood.
Speaking to Rev Erskine on Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Radio Show, she indicated that young girls, particularly in their teenage years, often make poor decisions due to a lack of the knowledge needed to navigate challenges during that stage of life.
““Big Sister’s Lap is a dream come true for me. I’ve come to realize that every journey on earth is meant to help us grow. Sadly, many young people in our part of the world miss out on important knowledge because our elders did not pass it on,” she shared.
She further noted that many young girls are heavily influenced by social media, which often glamorize the wrong values as behaviours that are sometimes adopted and later regretted. “It might look like it’s the thing but it’s actually not the thing. Just like that Atumpan song – they don’t know the thing so Big Sisters are here to show the small girls the thing.”
As the name suggests, Big Sister’s Lap, according to Ms. Saah, is designed as a safe and supportive platform that offers practical solutions and guidance to longstanding challenges faced by young women in areas such as education, relationships, and career development.
“Who is a Big Sister? My big sister will take care of this; Big Sister’s Lap is like sit on my lap and let me help navigate this thing called life as a teenager so that the mistakes I made will not be the same mistakes you make as well.”
She added that the foundation brings together a network of women from diverse professions and industries, both in Ghana and beyond, committed to providing mentorship, support, and empowerment to young girls in need of guidance.
