Alexis Sanchez’s Premier League debut for Manchester United did not go to plan, did it?
United were deservedly beaten 2-0 by Spurs at Wembley and Sanchez failed to make an impact in his 90 minutes on the pitch.
The hosts were very aggressive in their approach and the former Arsenal man was targeted, having been fouled on five occasions – the most of any player in the game.
And though the Chilean put a shift in and ran his socks off, he was totally ineffective in attack, struggling to create anything of note.
The stats don’t make for great reading, either – and it further highlights Sanchez’s tough day against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
As per Sky Sports, the 29-year old didn’t create a single chance or have a shot during the game, such was his difficulty to get in the game.
Prior to last night, he had created at least one opportunity and had an attempt on goal but for the first time this season, he failed to do so.
Moreover, completed just one take on and of all of his touches in the match, just two came in the Tottenham box.
Sanchez played on the left flank, before being deployed behind Romelu Lukaku in the second half but he ended up being too deep to make anything happen.
Assessing his display, Jose Mourinho said:
“He worked hard, but with the transformation the game had, the game was not for him. In the second half, I tried to give him a position where he could be closer to Lukaku but then he felt the need to drop too much to organise.
“But he gave everything, good effort and this is a good feeling for me to know that the player is available with that spirit.”
