Prominent Ghanaian dance crew, Militant Dance Family (MDF), is advocating for a shift in the perception of dance as a career in Ghana.
The group captivated a large audience on Saturday, June 22, at the YFM Area Codes Jam at Legon City Mall with a performance that skillfully blended various international dance styles with Afrobeats.
Following their electrifying performance, MDF’s co-founder, Fantastic Edem, shared insights with yfmghana.com about the crew’s vision to transform the dance landscape in Ghana.
Edem noted that many Ghanaian parents disapprove of dance as a profession, viewing it as a pursuit for delinquents. He called for a change in this outdated mindset. “We believe it is time for Ghanaians to show respect for dance as a viable career. The days when dance was dismissed as a path for troublemakers are over. Today, dancers influence trends and have a promising future. Let us embrace and support dance in Ghana.”
