The Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League delivered an action-packed night on March 10, 2026, with plenty of goals as some European heavyweights stamped their authority while others were forced to settle for less convincing results.
German giants Bayern Munich produced one of the standout performances of the night, thrashing Atalanta BC 6-1 away in Italy. The visitors took control early when Josip Stanišić opened the scoring in the 6th minute. Serge Gnabry doubled the advantage in the 25th minute before further goals from Nicolas Jackson, Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala wrapped up a dominant display. Mario Pašalić grabbed a consolation for the Italian side.
In Spain, Atlético Madrid also produced an emphatic performance, beating Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 to put themselves in a strong position ahead of the return leg. Goals from Marcos Llorente, Antoine Griezmann, Robin Le Normand and a brace from Julián Álvarez powered the Spanish side to victory. Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke found the net for Spurs, but the English club faces an uphill task in the second leg.
While Bayern and Atlético impressed, it was a more difficult evening for FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC.
Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle United at St James’ Park. The hosts controlled much of the first half but were denied by several key saves from goalkeeper Joan García. Harvey Barnes eventually broke the deadlock in the 86th minute, but a late foul on Dani Olmo allowed Lamine Yamal to convert from the penalty spot and rescue a draw for the Spanish side.
Meanwhile in Turkey, Galatasaray edged Liverpool FC 1-0, with Mario Lemina scoring the decisive goal to give the Turkish champions a narrow advantage heading into the return leg.
Other Round of 16 fixtures scheduled for February 11, 2026, will see Real Madrid face Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen take on Arsenal FC, Bodø/Glimt meet Sporting CP, and Paris Saint-Germain clash with Chelsea FC.
