UK-based Ghanaian media personality and former Ghana’s Most Beautiful 1st Runner-Up; Adwoa Saah has urged upcoming media personalities in Ghana to prioritise building strong personal brands before seeking opportunities abroad.
Sharing insights with Rev Erskine on Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Radio Show, Ms. Saah drew from her journey spanning over two decades — from her early days at Kessewa FM to her recent role as a presenter at Rainbow Radio UK.
She refuted the notion that leaving a local audience to pursue opportunities abroad guarantees success in the media industry. “Don’t do it. It’s not the best decision because what you are doing now, as a full time thing, will now have to become a hobby if you want to survive.”
She encouraged young professionals to trust the process, align with purpose, and focus on self-improvement until their brands become globally recognised. “The beauty of it is to be here and be identified by the BCC or CNN than to say you have been practicing in Ghana and want to pursue an audience overseas.”
Referencing Ghanaian music exports as examples, she explained that the support received from Ghanaians always follows any where in the world. “We have guys like Stonebwoy and Black Sherrif coming up there and organizing concerts and Ghanaians patronize and after they can go anywhere they want because they have a made-brand.”
