When your manager does so well with your club that the local pub renames itself in his name, you suspect he must be doing something right.
But even though Sean Dyche’s managerial prowess has seen a meteoric rise for Burnley – so much so that they’re now playing European football – the club’s hierarchy is yet to back him in the transfer market.
So far the Clarets have signed approximately zero players, and this is a huge cause for concern for Burnley supporters, who are hoping to build on what was a superb last season.
Burnley would hope to at least bring in a goalkeeper, with Nick Pope getting injured during the preseason with a dislocated shoulder.
When quizzed about whether last season’s seventh place finish will be Burnley’s best ever finish, Dyche pointedly said via The Guardian: “It might be, we don’t know yet.”
“Seventh isn’t the highest possible, but it might be the highest probable. Theoretically the possibilities are endless, we all saw that when Leicester blew the roof off, but I think the top six are now very powerful.
This quote is pretty open to interpretation, but no we know no manager likes to go through an entire window without a little bit of money to spend.
Which is why this new Twitter account spawned: ‘Have Burnley Signed Anyone Yet?’
Some of the tweets have been class.
