In news that will come as a surprise to absolutely fucking no one, Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer unhappy at Real Madrid and wants to remain at the Bernabeu.
The past week has seen a million stories circulate regarding the Portugal captain’s future with the Spanish and European champions, who was said to be disgusted with his treatment by both the Spanish authorities regarding charges of tax fraud brought against him and also with the boos he has received on occasion from Real’s fans at the Bernabeu.
No sooner had news filtered out of the Los Blancos camp that Ronaldo was unhappy, that rumours began to circulate linking the four time Ballon d’Or winner with a move back to Manchester United, where he spent six years, between 2003 and 2009.
Of course, the stories surrounding Ronaldo’s future were treated with plenty of suspicion and cynicism as it was believed that he was simply stalling for time until Real officials made the taxman problems disappear.
And now, following a a public defence from Real President Florentino Perez, the Portuguese phenom has reversed his decision and will remain in the Spanish capital.
Speaking on Onda Cero’s El Transistor programme, Perez said, “Cristiano isn’t someone who is motivated by money. He’s hurt, and possibly quite rightly so, because he has tried not to upset anyone. Cristiano isn’t a business. He is part of Real Madrid’s history”
United manager Jose Mourinho is likely to keep his attentions focuses on signing one (or two) of Alvaro Morata, Andrea Belotti and Robert Lewandowski to complement his current forward options, for next season, as the Portuguese manager attempts to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.
