YFM Ghana’s leading urban and youth radio station has appointed DJ Kess as Head of Music for YFM Accra, building on her impressive 16-year career with the station.
The award-winning DJ, who discovered her passion for music while at Archbishop Porter Girls in Takoradi, has been a driving force in Ghana’s music scene. Starting as the school’s official DJ, she transformed what seemed like a one-time opportunity into a thriving professional career.
DJ Kess has consistently broken barriers in the male-dominated DJ industry, earning recognition as Best Female DJ at the Ghana DJ Awards twice in a row and Best Radio DJ in 2018. Her influence extends beyond Ghana’s borders, having performed at major events across Africa including the Big Brother Africa House party in South Africa, Etisalat Epiq Nation concert in Benin, and multiple shows in Liberia and Nigeria.
Currently hosting YFM’s Y Lounge with Akosua Hanson from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM Monday through Thursday, DJ Kess also runs the popular weekly Hip Hop Wednesdays event. Her recent performances include high-profile events like Afronation and this December’s lineup featuring Bella Afrik, Lennox Bar, and the Hip Hop Africa Festival.
“I appreciate the show of trust from management and I’m ready to take over and bring something refreshing to our listeners,” said DJ Kess about her new role. “My focus is on taking music broadcasting to the next level, making sure radio is not the limit but also expanding into the digital space so more Ghanaian artists get heard.”

As Head of Music, DJ Kess will oversee music programming and strategy for YFM Accra, positioning the station as the number one music platform dedicated to supporting musicians, especially up and coming artists and underground talents. She will lead the drive to support more artists, with particular focus on promoting female artists and emerging voices in Ghana’s music scene.
