To prevent the ‘Drake curse’ from striking, Anthony Joshua is considering banning the Canadian rapper from his dressing room on fight night.
The ‘Drake curse’ has been in full effect of late. The likes of Conor McGregor, Neymar, Jadon Sancho and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, among others, have been severely affected.
And, not long ago, Joshua was snapped with Drake ahead of his world title defence against Andy Ruiz Jr.
He’s aware of the curse sweeping the sporting bubble. But, in a bid to avoid his infamous voodoo, Joshua is set to ban Drake from seeing him before his fight in New York.
“I know I shouldn’t,” the unified heavyweight world champion said when asked if Drake would be visiting him prior to walking out to the ring on June 1.
“You know about the Drake curse? It’s real though.
“This is what I’m saying, what’s weird though is I took a picture with Drake. We took it before (Jarrell) Miller got banned.
“Miller then had a drug test and got popped. The fight got cancelled!”
Of course, Miller failed not one but THREE drug tests. He was subsequently removed from the main-even slot with Eddie Hearn drafting in Ruiz Jr.
Ruiz Jr, 29, takes the bout on short notice and is a huge underdog. He’s riding a three-fight win streak after suffering his first professional defeat to Joseph Parker.
Joshua, meanwhile, will be making the seventh defence of his heavyweight crown as he makes his American debut at the iconic Madison Square Garden.
