Nigerian’s female rising music star, Guchi has weighed in on the discussion of the endeavors of female artistes in the entertainment and creative industry.
In an interview with Brown Berry on Y107.9 FM’s “Ryse N Shyne” she reiterated that the industry is a structured challenge to depress females from thriving.
Guchi believes that the industry is highly controlled by men hence, female artistes need to work extra harder to get their music across.
“I think every woman in the entertainment industry goes through the same thing to break barriers. Especially in the music industry they don’t get to make you feel all the world. They want you to feel you’re not doing enough even though you have to work like times five harder than a guy for you to actually be seen. For people to actually notice you. You have to work so hard,” she said.
According to Guchi, women have long been perceived as only made for the kitchen and to bear children. She vows to denounce such discernments as she reiterated that she is never prepared to give up her music career yet.
“It’s been hard as a lady. I’ll say because people just think she’s a lady she’s going to end up in the kitchen or she’s going to end up having kids and she’ll leave music and focus on her kids. Of course, I want to have kids but I don’t think I’m going to leave it for nobody and I’m not leaving it for the guys. Right now I’m at war with the guys and that’s how they want it,” she stressed.
Guchi is set to release her much-anticipated EP after making waves with the ‘Jennifer’. She is currently in Ghana on a media tour.
