Christine Ansong Esq., Deputy CEO of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, led a team of GDCL management and staff, along with Bubune Biana Bottozah’s family and loved ones, to welcome her at Kotoka International Airport yesterday after she came second at Ms. Geek Africa 2025.

The electrical engineering graduate competed against young women from 21 other African countries. Kenya won first place, whilst Cameroon took third. The competition started in Kigali, Rwanda with a bootcamp, and ended in Conakry, Guinea.

“Bubune’s success shows that when you invest in young women and give them support, they excel,” said Christine Ansong Esq. at the airport. “We’re incredibly proud to have been part of her journey.”

Bubune, who graduated from the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, used the competition to talk about using technology to fight illegal mining. “Representing Ghana on this stage was an honour,” she said. “I’m excited to bring everything I’ve learned back home to impact more young people.”

The competition helped build her confidence. “I can pitch and get my point across more accurately now. I’m no longer timid,” she said. “Seeing young girls like me all trying to achieve the same thing made it easier to grow.”

Through her Eureka STEM Club in mining communities, Bubune teaches robotics, basic electronics, and renewable energy to young people. She also runs a JHS BECE prep programme for students who don’t get enough STEM teaching in their schools.

Bubune plans to study for a master’s degree in Mechatronics at Ashesi University next year whilst expanding her STEM club. “I’ll use my title to advocate against illegal mining and to push STEM education in public schools,” she said.

Her advice to other young women: “Go for it. Apply early, reach out to people already there for guidance. Even if you are not 100 per cent ready, still apply, and don’t say no to yourself before others do.”

Ghana Digital Centres Limited continues to support young Ghanaians in STEM and technology to help them compete on international platforms.
