American comedian and actor Chico Bean opened up about the profound impact Ghana has had on his life, describing it as the source of the most peace he has ever experienced.
Chico Bean, widely known for his wit and humour in an exclusive interview with Y 107.9 FM’s “DrYve of Your Lyfe” with Kojo Manuel disclosed that his first visit to Ghana was during “The Black Star Line Festival” organized by Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa last year, where he was invited by Chance himself.
The vibrant atmosphere and the energy of the concert left a lasting impression on him, prompting him to return to the West African nation this year.
However, the main reason for his return to Ghana wasn’t merely for entertainment.
Chico Bean revealed a more personal and heartfelt motivation behind his decision to come back. “I lost my mom in 2021, and I realized I hadn’t really started the grieving process,” he disclosed during the interview.
In search of a place to disconnect and reflect, he chose Ghana as his destination, emphasizing that he needed to go somewhere he had never been before.
While acknowledging that he had visited Egypt previously, Chico Bean expressed that Egypt felt like a “gentrified Africa,” and he didn’t consider it a genuine representation of the continent.
In contrast, his time in Ghana provided him with a unique and authentic experience that resonated with him on a deep level.
“It was some of the most peace I’ve ever had in my life,” Chico Bean shared, reflecting on the solace he found in Ghana.
He went on to reveal his resolution to make visiting the motherland an annual tradition, stating, “So I told myself every year I’m going to start my year off in the motherland, so I chose to come to Ghana again this year.”
Chico Bean’s journey to Ghana goes beyond a typical celebrity vacation, like most people from the Diaspora, it symbolizes quest for healing, connection, and a profound appreciation for the rich cultural shades of Africa.
