Ghana is widening its tourism appeal by tapping into the country’s cocoa industry, with Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region positioned as a new experiential destination.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Abeiku Santana, says the initiative is part of efforts to keep Ghana competitive as a leading tourism hub.
Speaking on the Myd Morning Radio Show, Y Holiday Havoc Edition with Rev Erskine, he said the move is inspired by the Black Star Experience and aims to “turn every community and every city into a tourism destination.”
Under the initiative, GTA, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is creating immersive tourism experiences around cocoa one of Ghana’s most valuable exports.
He indicated that through this avenue, many tourists are brought into the country all year round, which in hand brings in revenue and showcases Ghanaian culture.
“We call it Cocoa City Experience, where we bring the cocoa value chain ecosystem players together, those producing cocoa products together and people are coming in,” the GTA official said.
