The 13th edition of the e.tv Ghana/Japan Motors Corporate Run and Walk saw a teeming number of patrons and participants from various corporate institutions across the country converge at the Silver Star Tower, to celebrate Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and promote healthy living amongst the Ghanaian community.
The annual 5KM Run and Walk which is also a run for charity, is geared towards raising funds to support the Ghana Blind Union (GBU), where a portion of all registration fees is donated to the union.
With participants all set and branded in their various corporate colors at the start line, the aerobics coach of Branch Health and Fitness took them (participants) through a couple of exciting moves and techniques to increase blood circulation and prepare runners well for takeoff.
Runners took off at exactly 6:33am along pre-mapped routes; starting from Silver Star Tower to Liberation Road, through 37 Military Hospital, Defense Drive to the streets leading to Airport Roundabout and back to the Silver Star Premises.
In a matter of 17minutes after take-off, Tony Asigbey completed the full course, making him the fastest man of the day. He took home a Focus remote control fan, Silverbird cinema tickets, Lakeside Marina Park tickets, branded key rings, gym equipment for Koflex Gym, Foton notepads, a gift voucher from Branch Health and Fitness, and other souvenirs from sponsors.
Agnes Bayour, finished with a record time of 23 minutes 11 seconds, making her the fastest woman of the day. She took home a 1634R Focus remote control fan, Silverbird Cinema tickets, Lakeside Marina Park tickets, branded key rings, gym equipment from Koflex Gym and a gift voucher from Branch Health and Fitness.
With a time of 28minutes 55seconds, Tim Magadey topped the fastest CEO category. He won for himself a gold medal, a trophy, Yamaha generator, Silverbird Cinema tickets, Lakeside Marina Park tickets, branded key rings and a one month membership gift voucher from Branch Health and Fitness.
For the fastest manager category, Ahmed Hussein and Angela Ampaw won the male and female categories with a time of 32minutes 16seconds and 39minutes 8seconds respectively. They both won for themselves F1656R Focus remote control fans, Silverbird Cinema tickets, Lakeside Marina Park tickets, gift vouchers for 1 hour free full body massage at Spa Body & Beyond and custom key rings.
One of the most anticipated awards for the day was in the fastest visually impaired category. The winner of the category took home a F160 Focus fan, a gold medal, Cannon t-shirt, gift vouchers for 1 hour free full body massage at Spa Body & Beyond, lunch date at SAS Café. Dennis Bonney took home these awards, completing the run in 36minutes 55seconds.
Lakeside Estate emerged winners of the coveted fastest Corporate team category with an average time of 20minutes 8seconds. They took home an enviable prize package comprising a Yadea electric scooter, a trophy, gold medals, a Cannon chain link, gift vouchers for 1 hour free full body massage at Spa Body & Beyond, one month membership gift vouchers from Branch Health and Fitness and a number of prizes.
Inducted into the e.tv Ghana/Japan Motors Corporate Run hall of fame was Gabriel Atsu Avevor, who has won the fastest over 60 years category three (3) years in a row.
The Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), as part of their 35 year anniversary partnered and sponsored a special award category at the 2023 e.tv/Japan Motors Corporate Run and Walk. The winner of the Fastest GREAD CEO category won a redeemable cash prize of Ghc1,200.00 (from Sethi steel), Ghc350.00 meal gift voucher from Mels Kitchen, custom Nissan t-shirt and products from HRM Organics. With the desire to support the Ghana Blind Union, Connor Maclenney, winner of the fastest GREDA CEO award donated his winnings to them (GBU), saying “we always need to support the GBU in any way we can. There is nothing too little.”
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Media Alliance Group (GMA), Ernest Boateng, who also participated in the run applauded participating corporations and companies, encouraging them to partake more in similar events promoting healthy living. “Staff of Corporate Institutions spend long hours in the office behind their desks and should take time off to engage in physical activities such as this. This is to constantly remind them that living healthy is equally essential. The corporate run experience creates the atmosphere for workers to bond and resume work more energized and enthusiastic.”
He further esteemed corporate Institutions for coming out in their numbers to support an initiative for charity and encouraged them to stay healthy.
Salah Kalmoni, Event Director of Run Ghana made a passionate appeal to corporate institutions to support the Ghana Blind Union raise Ghc15,000.00 to service their Nissan pick-up truck. “Today’s run is a special edition and its primary focus is to raise funds to support the servicing and maintenance of the Union’s vehicle, a vehicle it uses to engage its members nationwide. This is a critical time and we need to provide aid to them quickly.” After his appeal, CEO of Global Media Alliance Group, parent company of Happy FM, YFM Accra, YFM Kumasi and YFM Takoradi, Ernest Boateng pledged unlimited airtime to the union to receive the support they need, while former ambassador of Ghana to China, Edward Boateng also contributed a substantial sum towards the maintenance of the GBU pick-up.
