Two Ghanaian footballers, Edmund Baidoo and Samuel Obeng, are poised to make history as they prepare to participate in the inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup.
The prestigious tournament will see the world’s best clubs compete, with Baidoo and Obeng representing Africa on the global stage.
Edmund Baidoo, a 19-year-old forward, has made a rapid rise since joining Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg in 2024 from Norwegian club Sognal. He has quickly established himself as a regular member of the Salzburg squad, showcasing his talent and potential in his debut season.
Samuel Obeng, 27, will represent Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club. The forward joined Wydad in January, bringing with him a wealth of experience from stints in Spain with Girona and Oviedo, and most recently, Casa Pia in Portugal. Obeng also featured for Ghana’s Black Meteors at the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Baidoo and Obeng are among 147 African players set to participate in the landmark tournament, signifying the continent’s growing representation in global football. Players from Nigeria, Morocco, South Africa, Egypt, and Tunisia, among others, will also be featured, highlighting the depth of talent across the African continent. This inaugural FIFA Club World Cup promises to be a showcase of world-class football, with these two Ghanaians ready to make their mark.
