UK-based Nigerian creative arts industry player, Adesope Olajide, has laid emphasis on the need for music in Ghana to break into the international market.
The statement generates from the #PlayGhana initiative which was launched as a campaign to celebrate and promote exceptional talents within the nation’s music industry, push Ghanaian artists at the forefront and manage the issue of the influx of foreign music dominance in the Ghanaian space.
The 46-year-old media personality speaking in an interview on an Accra based radio station described the initiative as a move taken in the right direction.
He submitted that the festive season presents Ghana with an opportunity to give foreigners a full experience of Africa with aspects of music included. This he implied, would be determined by the patronage level of local music. “When we come home in December, it is not only coming to visit our families and go to parties; for people like us that are dedicated to promote the culture the first thing I would want to do, is listen to what everybody is listening to.”
He believes that Ghanaians must take advantage of the season and promote local music to give Ghanaian musicians a chance at attaining an audience that goes beyond the borders of Africa.
Director of Ghana’s Creative Arts Agency;Gyankroma Akufo-Addo has made a clarion call together with Music Executive and Cultural Activist, Smallgod to stand as advocates of the #PlayGhana initiative. This initiative is geared towards widening the audience of Ghanaian talents within and outside Ghana.
