Ghana continues to peak across the world as “Girls Trip 2” is set to be filmed here.
The Variety Studio presented by Audible at Sundance welcomed Tracy Oliver, a writer-director-producer who co-wrote the original 2017 comedy, who gave an update on the upcoming reunion of Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish.
According Variety, she had a definitive ‘Girls Trip 2’ update. Oliver claimed while attending the festival to promote the second season of her Amazon Prime Video series “Harlem” that it is formally taking place. “I’m able to say that, while the movie’s producer Will Packer may kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana,” she also gave a narrative update.
After Oliver revealed the information, actor Shoniqua Shandai, one of his “Harlem” stars, yelled “Afrochella!” She alludes to Ghana’s biggest yearly cultural and musical event, Afrochella, which takes its name from Coachella, an American festival known for its flower crowns.
The cast of “Girls Trip” will attempt to attend the festival, which has drawn notable musical artists from the area, including Shatta Wale who got featured earned a feature with American legendary singer, Beyonce. This was confirmed by Oliver. The production schedule is not yet known because Oliver has not yet turned in her script.
On a small $16 million budget, the first “Girls Trip” grossed a respectable $140 million at the box office. The film was produced by Packer, directed by Malcolm D. Lee, and co-written by Olvier and Kenya Barris from a plot they developed with Erica Rivinoja. It also helped Haddish, who was lately in controversy, become a household name.
